In another sign the auto industry is on a comeback, Ford Motor (F) reportedly will announce plans Monday to add 7,000 jobs to its U.S. workforce during the next two years in a variety of positions.
The plan includes the addition of 4,000 blue-collar jobs and 750 salaried positions this year, plus another 2,500 manufacturing jobs in 2012, The Detroit News reported. Ford plans to make the announcement at the North American International Auto Show, getting under way in Detroit.
"We are on a path to add more than 7,000 U.S. workers over the next two years as we continue to grow our product lineup," said Mark Fields, Ford's president of the Americas, in a statement. "Working with our partners, including the UAW, Ford is finding competitive ways to engineer and build even more high-quality, fuel-efficient vehicles with technologies American consumers really want."
